Discovering Australian Wine Regions | Yrs 9-10 Geography

Wine Australia’s new course offers a comprehensive and in-depth look into the world of wine and viticulture in Australia. Released in 2022, this course provides a unique learning opportunity for Year 9-10 students to explore the various wine regions across the country, understand the current industry challenges and practices, and gain insights into the impact of climate change and export markets.

Designed to be a combination of digital and offline learning, this course is an excellent teacher resource to engage students in a range of activities and research opportunities. Wine Australia has partnered with the Geography Teachers’ Association of Victoria and PIEFA to bring together a team of experts who have crafted a course that is not only informative but also interactive and engaging.

As students delve into the rich history of Australia’s wine regions and the current industry practices, they will also have the opportunity to develop a deeper appreciation for the art of viticulture and the hard work that goes into producing high-quality wine. They will learn about the various factors that contribute to the unique flavours and aromas of wines from different regions, such as climate, soil type, and grape variety.

Furthermore, students will also get a glimpse into the future of the wine industry and the important role that technology and innovation will play in ensuring its sustainability. This course aims to inspire students to consider a career in the wine industry and to understand the diverse opportunities available to them.

The course was a joint project between Wine Australia, the Geography Teachers’ Association of Victoria & PIEFA.
