You Are What You Eat!

The NSTA and Corteva Agriscience have come together to bring an engaging and educational teacher resource for students in grades 3-5 to learn about the fascinating world of agriscience. This collection of 10 lesson plans will take students on a journey of discovery, exploring the source of their food and the role agriculture plays in producing it.

Starting with soil and soil health, students will learn about the vital role soil plays in growing healthy crops and how farmers care for the soil to produce the best possible crops. They will then delve into the science of seeds, discovering how seeds grow into plants and the different factors that influence seed germination.

As students continue their journey, they will gain an understanding of how farmers use science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to support their work, from planting to harvesting. They will learn about the connections between agriculture and the food they eat, and the importance of a balanced diet in maintaining good health.

In addition to exploring the science of agriculture, the collection of lessons also includes a discussion of food safety, an essential aspect of understanding the food we eat. Each lesson has clear objectives to guide teachers and students, ensuring that all key concepts are covered and understood.

This teacher resource offers a unique opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of the world of agriscience and the role it plays in their daily lives. With hands-on activities and real-world connections, students will be engaged and motivated to learn about the food they eat and the journey it takes from farm to table.
